The Dallas Community Hub was awash with lemon butter icing and fondant flowers last week as the Crafty Cake Club held its first cake decorating class.
EastWeb has funded the Crafty Cake Club, at Dallas Brooks Community Primary School in Victoria, which will teach participants from migrant backgrounds how to decorate cakes, and complete an accredited certificate in hygienic food handling. Piping, preparing and colouring fondant, and creating edible flowers out of fondant, are all on the menu.
The Dallas Community Hub works with disadvantaged and vulnerable families who are predominantly new migrants and refugees who live in the City of Hume. The Crafty Cake Club will provide an opportunity to learn language and literacy skills through a fun activity, and to build local connections.
This introduction to the Hub will also provide opportunities for local families to develop and identify links to other relevant support services, including local education, health, community and settlement services.
Good luck to the Crafty Cake Club, and save us a piece of cake!
